We're back!

Well after a long sick week, we're back! Our week didn't go anywhere near what it was planned to be. The first weekend went great! Tuesday morning about 4 am, I wake up to Joey crying and his bed covered in vomit. So, we took it easy Tuesday and late afternoon I thought he was feeling better so I gave him some baby food. Bad idea.... poor little guy puked all over me twice, the second time choking on it so my father and I took him to Dayton Children's Hospital. In the mean time, I hadn't been feeling too hot all day, but I figured it was me just being pregnant and thought nothing of it. Well, we get to the ER to find out that it was FULL of sick babies with the same thing wrong as Joey. So after sitting there holding the little guy for a hour, I was so nauseated, I had to hand him over to my dad. My mom arrived after she got off of work and took over holding Joey. After 2 hours, we got called back. Once in the room, I started vomiting. The good news was the Joey didn't aspirate. So needless to say, the next couple days were full of me feeling lousy and poor little Joey not able to keep anything down but pedialite. Of course none of our family wanted to be around us except my poor dad who also caught it. Hopefully our next trip will go better.

Well, I'm off to call Joey's pedi to see what the heck to do with Joey. Yesterday I gave him formula for the first time in the airport so he wouldn't scream his head off on the plane and now he has diarrhea again.

But we didn't get to do all the fun things that were planned for our trip and we barely got to see anyone that we were suppose to see. At least I got to see my brother and his wife, and my grandma!

Also, while in the ER, the doctor there detected a very slight heart murmur in Joey's heart. I called Joey's Dr the next day and he said that he was aware of it. Why didn't he tell me about it!? He says it nothng to worry about, but I would have still liked to have known about it!

Oh no, Sorry to hear you and Joey were sick. Shaylee had the stomach bug 2 times in 2 weeks. It must be going around.

Ummm, personally if I were you I'd have him checked by a pediatric cardiologist just to make sure his heart is ok since heart problems are common in kids w. DS. They can do an echo-cardiogram & tell if there is a problem. Your ped. should have told you about the murmur! Joey's probably fine but better to know for sure I think.

When I was pregnant with Joey, they did a fetal echocardiogram and there was no holes in his heart. I asked his doctor if he should be seem by a cardiologist and I was told no. I don't know what to think.

oh my goodness! all that and pregnant as well!!! I feel for you!
Alfie had a little heart murmur, and so did my sister, and my best mate - none of them with any ill effects. I think the best thing to think is that this is not affecting him adversely at the moment, but it's useful to know about so you can keep an eye on it as part of his routine testing. Apart from that, I would forget about it - put it in a box marked 'not a problem to worry about at the moment' and bury it well!

ah man, so sorry you were stuck inside on your Ohio trip! It was nice to have your parents to help out though huh? Maybe your doc didn't tell you about the mumor because he didn't want to worry you over nothing? Just a thought.

Sorry that most of your trip was filled with the sickies :( I think we've got them here as well. As for the murmur, I think they should have told you as well. It sounds like they are aware, but maybe you could talk with his doctor a little more, just to give you more of a comfort level.

Welcome back!! I hope you're all better soon!

Jack has a small VSD (very tiny hole causing his murmur) that should never require surgery and will eventually close on its own. That sounds like what Joey might have.

Glad you're back!

:)

Oh no I am sorry you guys got sick. Vince also caught some bug and has been having diareah the last 3 days. Only that though... I am hoping that he is getting more teeth and that is why!

I hate when the Dr's don't tell everything. I really hope it is nothing to worry about. But that is easy for a Dr to say... Hope Joey gets better real soon!

AWW Poor you!!! If it isn't bad enough getting gastro when your home but on Vacation! As for the Murmur. My oldest son has a murmur and he has never seen cardiologist and is 19 and never had any problems. BUT If your worried why not request an echo just to set your mind at ease. Either way if he had a serious heart condition i'm sure it would have been detected by now especially since everyone knows that children wih T21 have a greater risk and are monitored closly for this at birth. Sorry your Vacation didn't go the way you had planned!

I'm so sorry you both were so sick for the visit :( Not fun at all!

How frustrating to not even be told of his murmur! So Joey hasn't seen a cardiologist at all?

The perinatologist didn't find anything in her u/s to be of a concern with Kayla's heart either.

Her ped didn't hear anything either. But her ped had a "checklist" of things babies w/Ds should be checked for annually as a preventative measure. She gave us referrals to opthamology, ENT, and cardiology just to have everything checked.

The card dr didn't hear anything either, but the echo picked up her very small PDA. Even after the cardio saw where it was, she said it was so small she still couldn't hear it with the stethascope, even though she knew where to listen for it.

Will they send you to a cardiologist for a refferal?

I thought about this some more and I don't want to upset you but I don't quite understand why Joey hasn't had an echo since he was born. Tristan had one at birth and it was normal and then another at 3 months just to be sure and they found a small PDA and 2 fistula's. Mind you he has never had or will never need treatment or surgery but it is nice to know. Like He needs to take antibiotics if he ever has dental work or surgery for something else. There is a good chance there is nothing wrong but I really encourage you to insist he get a referral for a cardiologist. Just to be safe.

thanks everyone for your input, I've asked once already for a cardio eval but I think I'm going to insist on one now. Thanks!
