I'm on a mission!

I've decided that I need to make a difference somehow helping to educate other women who were in my shoes in October 2005 when I got my CVS results that Joey did in fact have Down syndrome. I've been emailing back and forth with another mom here in Connecticut and hopefully we can start to not only educate medical professionals but also families who receive a prenatal diagnosis of Trisomy 21. Hospitals don't give out enough if any information on Down syndrome so families don't always realize the joy our children bring us and how they're not really much different than a typical child. Joey eats, sleeps and poops just like a typical baby, he might need a little more help getting strong enough to sit, stand and walk, but that doesn't mean to give up on him. His heart beats just like ours and his blood is red just like ours. The more I sit around and think about it, the more determined I become to make a difference!

To be continued...

I've been talking to my friends about this. Since we got that bulletin at church about abortion...it opened a door. No one i know has a child with DS but you never know. I hate those statistics!! And I hate that doctors give the option of abortion first. My hubby said it's like people are shopping for their kids. They have a "flaw" so they don't want them...very sad.

I think that is awesome! I was getting upset when I was doing my research on the abortion rate for babies with DS. I got even matter the Drs. kind of force the testing on women. I think what you are doing is great.

You go girl! What a great idea. People do need to be aware, so they can make the right choice.

Hey Jess...I am completely on board with you on this one!!! It really makes me sad the way termination is suggested as the 1st option in these instances. And most of the time the poor family hasn't had any exposure to Down syndrome, don't know any better, and just take the doctor's word as gospel. If they were just exposed to some of the incredible children and inspirational stories, I'm sure they would come to see it more as a blessing and not like a death sentence. Please let me know what I can do to help. Kim...Jake's proud mommy

Great attitude! You go girl. Even if you can make a difference for one Mom or one child it will be a difference that means the world to someone! I have been offline for a few months and am happy to be back and am looking forward to hearing all about Joey again! I can't believe how much he has changed babies grow up too fast! One thing hasn't changed he still is as cute as ever!

Do you have a Barnes & Noble near you? You would be a perfect speaker for the local Feb. event.
